 Petrus Regout Maastricht Porcelain:
The Royal Sphinx was founded in 1834 by Petrus Regout. He was in Maastricht, Netherlands. He first founded a glass factory. The production of ceramics began two years later. Ceramic production initially focused on the so-called faience community – simple ceramics for a local market.

Production was gradually adapted to higher standards, thanks to British specialists hired to compete with popular British creams. Petrus Söhne was integrated into the management of the company. The company name was then changed to Petrus Regout & Co.

In 1879, the image of the Sphinx was used as the brand and logo of the company. The company was called De Sphinx in 1899. In 1958, the company merged with Société Ceramique and changed its name to NV Sphinx-Céramique. Since 1960, due to a royal decision, a name has been changed to Royal Sphinx. In 1994, the company was taken over by the Swedish company Gustavsberg and renamed NV Koninklijke Sphinx Gustavsberg.

In 1997, the tile division was separated as an independent company. He went bankrupt in 2008. The Sphinx itself was bought by the Finnish company Sanitec in 1999. In 2010, the Maastricht plant was closed and production was relocated to the Sanitec plant in Sweden.
