1893-1983 Spanish painter, graphic artist, sculptor and potter

Joan Miró (1893-1983) is appreciated for his humorous works, which have been playful since the 1920s and in the post-war period. The biography of the artist from Barcelona shows how he decided to become a painter after a serious illness. During the First World War in 1917 he met artists from Paris, such as Francis Picabia. This encouraged him - like the success of Pablo Picasso - in 1920 to move to the city on the Seine. Since then, he has been living in Paris for the winter. and returned to Spain in the summer. Miró's works depict the poet's search for art in wars. He joined the Surrealists without following his teachings. He was not interested in the nightmare, but in the lost dream, as well as in writing and expanding the entire painting.
The political changes of the 1930s, especially the Spanish Civil War of 1936, led to a brutalization of his art. It was not until around 1940 that Miró was able to connect with his paintings from the 1920s. He developed the characteristics of the Miró star and amorphous figures. After the Second World War, Joan Miró continued to live in Spain and was a tireless stab against the military dictatorship. He expanded his art to include ceramics, which played a key role until the end of Miró's life.
