A beautifully detailed and brilliant scene painted in the mid-19th century after the original painting by Gabriel Metsu (Dutch, 1629-1667), the scene captures in almost photographic realism a young woman selling onions and poultry while a gentleman the elder rests with his pipe. in mouth; bargains with her customer, an old woman with a bucket on her arm who collects goods from the market.
